Our Minor hurles have been going well with what was a great performance. Kieran Lillis stood out as they fought back to come from behind and win by a point. Next up was Castletown Slieve Bloom and all across the field the portlaoise hurlers put in some good performances going on to win 2-20 to 3-11. Tony Flynn and Adam Coulihan stood out on this occasion. All credit to the mentors and players for the work they are putting in.
Next up our under 14A hurlers qualified for the 14 League final. They had a great battle with Borris Kilcotton. Portlaoise let slip a 4 point advantage to allow Borris to draw the game but made up for this in extra time with some great hurling going on to win in the end. They now play Rathdowney Errill in the final. Best of luck to Kevin Lynch and the boys.
Our minor footballers travelled to Ratheniska for their championship game against Stradbally. After a slow start in the first half Portlaoise made a few changes and with a solid performance in the second half went on to record a good win.
Our under 10s have played Naas and Sarsfields in friendlies and gave a good account for themselves. Finally best of luck to all our teams out in the next couple of days
It has been a very busy week for Portlaoise Juvenile GAA club with action on and off the field in preparation for hosting the féile na nGael next weekend with work on the pitches ongoing.
The teams concluded their final matches with the A team playing Moneygall on Saturday night in a challenge game and coming away convincing winners while the B Team took on St.Pauls on Friday night and came away convincing winners also.
The U12 A hurlers had a great win in the hurling championship against Camross on Friday night in Slieve Bloom on the scoreline of Portlaoise 5-5 Camross 3-1. This team are in action in the league on Wednesday Night away to Clough/Ballacolla in Ballacolla at 6.30 pm.
The Under 16 Footballers had a great win over Stradbally Parish Gaels on Sunday in Portlaoise. Portlaoise led by 1-9 to 0-5 at half-time and ran out winners on the scoreline of Portlaoise 1-13 Stradbally Parish Gaels 2-6. This win keeps Portlaoise in the hunt for the league having played five games Portlaoise have won three and lost two
The Under 16 B football team game with Camross was postponed.
The Under 16 Hurlers play Naas away in a challenge game on Wednesday night.
The Under 10 Hurlers played in a blitz in NAAS on Saturday and had a very good days hurling . With the coaching ongoing in the national schools every day there was a very successful blitz in Portlaoise last saturday morning with an attendance of over 103 kids.
The Portlaoise GAA grounds will be closed from Thursday 19th June to Monday 23th June due to Portlaoise hosting three teams in the féile na nGael over the weekend. Thus their will be no sunday morning coaching next sunday morning , the coaching will return next week . The Féile na nGael starts on Friday , first up the camogie Team play Burt of Donegal at 2.00 pm in Portlaoise , then at 3.00 pm Portlaoise "A" play Castletown / Geoghegan while at the same time Portlaoise "B" Play Knockbridge of Louth , with the parade taking place in Portlaoise on Friday night. This should be a very colourful occasion for all players , mentors , parents and members of the club. Then on Saturday Morning the camogie team play all thier matches in Clonad , starting at 11.00 am. They play the Monaghan Champions and at 12.15, play Near neighbours Clonad. The semi-Finals in this division takes place in Portlaoise and Borris-in - Ossory on Saturday evening . Portlaoise "A" Hurlers play their matches on Saturday in Ballacolla starting at 11.00 am against Causeway of Kerry and they play Clough/Ballacolla at 12.15 pm. The semi-final in this section takes place in Colt at 7.30 pm. Finally Portlaoise "B " play in Portlaoise on Saturday. The first game is against Castleblaney of Monaghan at 10.00 am and they play Timahoe at 12.15 pm. The semi-final takes place in Tullamore at 7.30 pm on Saturday evening. Our U12B Footballers put in a good show at home to Abbeyleix while our U12C footballers beat Crettyard away from home.
The U12B hurlers will have played Kyle last Tuesday and hopefully will have done well.
Our U 10 footballers will have travelled to Gracefields the same night for a friendly and hopefully Charlie and the boys put in a good show.
Our two U14 hurling teams were in action on Saturday against teams from Offaly in preperation for the upcoming All Ireland Feile being held in the two counties.
We would like to thank all those who helped with the bag packing and food over the weekend.
Our U16 footballers had a win away to Paletine last Tuesday while our under 16 hurlers put in a great show against Naoimh Edmunds Ballyfin at home last Saturday beating them 5-7 to 3-10. Well done to John Gleeson and the lads.
There will be a race night in the Clubhouse on Friday, 23rd May at 8.30. Horses and races can be bought from any committee member, a great opportunity for a fun night and raise some funds for the club.
Under 12 training for football and hurling continue Sunday morning 10-12. All welcome, and finally the best of luck to all our teams out over the coming days. On behalf of our 14 footballers and hurlers we would like to wish Mark Dunne a speedy recovery.

Sunday morning coaching is back up and running at the moment with football sessions from 10 - 11 and hurling sessions from 11-12. It is open to anyone under 12 who would like to play GAA. Fun is assured.
Our U-16 hurlers have a home game against Naomh Edmund/Ballyfin next Saturday 12th April at 6.30pm
The u12B football team play at home Friday 11th against Abbeyleix. Start time 5.30pm.
The U12C football team are away to Crettyard start time down for 5.30pm.
Our U16 footballers will have played St Vincents at home on Tuesday and hopefully came out on top while the are away to Pallatine on Thursday.
Both the U-12s football teams played last Sunday with the12Bs beating Kellishin and the 12Cs just losing out to Clonaslee
There will be no U14 football training this Friday with the U-14 hurlers having a blitz on Saturday in preparation for the upcoming Feile

U-12 win Hurling Tournament in Crumlin
Portlaoise Under 12 Hurlers competed in an easter tournament in St. Kevins G.A.A. Club near Crumlin in Dublin on Good Friday March 21st , 2008. After a good days hurling the Portlaoise Team won out the tournament with victories over host club St. Kevins, Setanta and St. Judes beating St. Kevins again in the final. Portlaoise won the first game against St. Kevins, by 1-1 to 1-0. Niall Devitt scoring Portlaoise’s total of 1-1 and putting in a man of the match performance. Next up for Portlaoise was Dublin Club Setanta with Portlaoise coming up winners by 2-4 t 0-1. Man of the match in this game was Kieran Flynn. Portlaoise scorers in this game were Niall Devitt 1-2 , Aaron Callaghan 1-0 , Alan Murphy 0-1, and Kieran Flynn 0-1.
Portlaoise then took on St. Judes and after a close encounter won on the scoreline of 3-4 to 3-2
Scorers in this game for Portlaoise were Ronan Tynan 0-1 , Niall Devitt 1-1 , Caolan Murphy 0-1 , Kieran Flynn 0-1, Tristan Tobin 0-1 and Dean O’Brien 0-1 . Man of the match in this game was Shane Whelan
Portlaoise then met St. Kevins in the final. In a very tough game, the sides were level at half-time , but great determination and fighting spirit won out on the day. Final score Portlaoise 3-0 St. Kevins 1-0 , Portlaoise scorers were Conor Ryan 1-0 , Caolan Murphy 1-0, Eddie O’Dea 1-0

Conditions for this tournament were good but cold and windy. All players played their part and the cup received by the two outstanding players Shane Whelan and Barry Ging. It has been a busy time lately for the towns juvenile hurlers and footballers.
The U-16A football team has had two good wins in the league so far and look to be going well under the guidance of Mark Kavanagh, John Seale and Tony Conlon.
Our u14 footballers travelled to Dublin for a good days football in ballyboden. Training for the u14s is 6.00pm Tuesday's .
Our u14 hurlers had two good games of hurling in Ballyfin against teams from Offaly in preperation for the up comeing feile which is hosted this year in Laois and Offaly.
Our u12s travelled to St Kevins in Dublin to play in a hurling tournament and after a long days hurling came away outright winners. The cup was presented to them by GAA president Nicky Brennen. Well done the boys involved, mentors and players.
All juveniles from u12 down are back training next Sunday 30th hurling from 10 to 11 followed by football 11 to 12. Any young person interested in participation in sport or mentoring should be encouraged to come along as it is a great way of making new friends, developing confidence plus hours off enjoyment. I remember some of our older players when the started Sunday morning training and from humbel beginnings have gone on to greatness .
Our u16 footballers have a home game against Palatine this Thursday at 6.30
