Portlaoise got their U15 Championship off to a perfect start with a great win against Stradbally Parish Gaels in Timahoe on Wednesday.
Playing with the aid of a strong wind in the first half, Portlaoise were initially slow to settle and had to work hard for scores during the opening period. The boys soon found their rhythm and produced some excellent football, moving the ball with pace, kicking accurately and working tirelessly all over the pitch. This excellent spell saw them build a 2-9 to 0-1 lead by half time.
Portlaoise carried that momentum into the second half, adding a number of early scores. To their credit, Stradbally Parish Gaels never gave up and kicked some great scores of their own and continued to battle until the final whistle.
Overall, it was a very well-deserved 4-14 to 0-8 win for Portlaoise. It was an excellent team performance, with high work rate from start to finish. The victory provides an encouraging start to the championship, with plenty of positives to build on in the rounds ahead.
