A last gasp superb point from the talented U15 Fionn Delaney rescued a valuable point for Portlaoise in the opening round of the minor hurling championship.
A few minutes prior to that it looked like the town had scored a great goal when Oisin McRedmond rattled a shot which appear to hit the back stancheon and come back into play…but it was deemed to have hit the post and no goal was awarded.
It would’ve been easy drop the heads at that stage but the lads kept plugging and dug out a great draw in the circumstances.
Shane Carroll was excellent all through in the goals and out the field everybody worked hard in sweltering conditions.
Fionn Delaney was invaluable for his intelligent play and his scoring prowess. Young Max Whelan came off the bench to score a crucial point also.
