Our U15 second team delivered a gutsy, wholehearted performance in Courtwood last evening, but this was one that ultimately slipped away. Playing into the breeze in the first half, the lads found themselves six points down approaching the break. They refused to wilt, though, and two well‑taken goals before the interval hauled them level and swung momentum back their way.
The second half proved that missed chances — not the wind — decide matches. Portlaoise created enough opportunities to push on, but a series of wides and a few attacks that didn’t quite click kept St Paul’s in touch. With eight minutes remaining, St Paul’s struck a decisive goal, nudging themselves ahead and holding that lead to the finish.
Despite the disappointment, this was a solid team display with plenty to build on. The boys showed character, work rate, and resilience, and they remain firmly in the hunt for a semi‑final spot. Two group games still lie ahead — and if they bring this level of effort again, they’ll give themselves every chance.
