A much-depleted Portlaoise side produced a tremendous battling performance against The Rock Kilcavan in the Division 1A Shield Final this evening in The Rock.
In a thrilling contest that went right down to the wire, Portlaoise came up just short on a scoreline of The Rock Kilcavan 6-7 to Portlaoise 4-10.
The lads showed great character throughout and looked to be on course for victory when they led by three points with only a few minutes remaining. Unfortunately, a late goal swung the game in favour of the home side in what was a cruel finish for a team that had given everything.
While the result did not go their way, the players can be immensely proud of their effort, determination and resilience. Against the odds, they battled for every ball and showed the spirit that has been a hallmark of this group all season.
There is plenty to build on and plenty to look forward to as attention now turns towards the championship.
