What a magical evening in Rathleague as our Junior B footballers performed a Houdini act in defeating Clonaslee in a thrilling contest. 

In the first half at times it looked like Clonaslee were out of sight as they scored 4 goals and had complete control. Aidan Fitzpatrick provided the only Portlaoise green flag response as the town trailed by 4-6 to 1-4 at the interval.

But these lads refused to yield and summoned the very best of Portlaoise footballing culture and heritage to get back into this game. 

The town dominated the second half. There were some standout performances from the likes of Paddy Reddin, Jake Byrne, Shane Smyth and many others. 

With time just about up Portlaoise still trailed by a point but a magnificent two pointer from Smyth, his second of the day, provoked wild celebrations at the final whistle. 

The manner of the win was memorable. And the town match onto a semi final.
