Laois’s U15 Platinum Football All-Ireland campaign came to a heartbreaking end as they were edged out by Meath after extra time in a thrilling final this past weekend.
Having reached the decider with impressive victories over Cork, Mayo, Clare and Kerry South, Laois produced another spirited display but ultimately fell just two points short after an absorbing contest.
Despite trailing by eight points early in the first half, Laois showed tremendous character to battle back into the game. Two goals from Darragh O’Riordan helped turn the tide before Liam Ellis finished another excellent team move to give Laois a narrow half-time lead.
Meath responded strongly in the second half, but Laois refused to give in. Outstanding defending and scores from Mark Kennedy, Fionn Burke and Fionn Harris kept them in contention before Podge Brennan’s dramatic late goal forced the game into extra time.
Laois again showed great resilience in the additional periods and looked to be in control before a late Meath goal proved decisive. A final long-range effort to force another period of extra time drifted narrowly wide as Meath claimed the title.
Congratulations to the entire Laois panel and management reaching the national final and showcasing the tremendous talent coming through in the county.
