U15 ‘C’ Hurling Championship: Portlaoise 3-14 v Mountmellick Gaels 3-5

Portlaoise 3-14
Mountmellick Parish Gaels 3-5

Portlaoise’s U15 C hurlers booked their place in the Championship semi-final following a deserved victory over Mountmellick Gaels in Páirc Ácragar on a pleasant evening for hurling, with only a gentle breeze affecting conditions.

The Portlaoise lads were full value for their win from start to finish and set the tone early with an impressive first-half display. Playing some excellent hurling and showing great work rate all over the field, they established a commanding lead and went in at the break ahead by 0-10 to 1-1. The Mountmellick goal arrived right on the stroke of half-time, but it did little to dent Portlaoise’s confidence or momentum.

To their credit, the boys responded superbly after the restart and continued to drive the game. Goals from Logan Fitzpatrick Peters, Adam Sythes, and Sam York helped maintain control of proceedings, with Sam finishing the evening with an impressive 1-4 from play.

In goals Adam Keogh marshalled the defence, providing leadership and organisation throughout. He was ably supported by a strong defensive unit in which Rhys Cuddy, Finn Byrne, and Caleb de Plasa all produced excellent performances and Sam Breen justified the early trip home from a break away.

In midfield, Dylan and Noah once again worked tirelessly, covering huge ground and ensuring Portlaoise remained on top for long periods. Further forward, it was great to see Max de Plasa make his long-awaited return to hurling, contributing strongly throughout. He was well assisted by Harry O’Dwyer, Eoin McNamara, and the goalscorers, all of whom played their part in an impressive team display.

However its not fair to just name a few as there were 17 great performances this evening.

The final whistle confirmed a 3-13 to 3-5 victory and a place in the semi-final, which everyone hopes will be played in Rathleague.

It has been a tremendous week for U15 hurling in Portlaoise, with two championship victories for the C team and a win for the A team last night. It has been quite some time since the club had two U15 hurling teams competing in championship semi-finals, a testament to the hard work and dedication of players, mentors, and supporters alike.

Well done to all involved, and best of luck in the semi-final!
