On a sun drenched evening in McCann Park our minor lads were unlucky to come away from Portarlington tonight without any points.
The lads performed solidly for the majority of the match and were 5 points to the good with 15 minutes left to play. Portarlington were given a life line when portlaoise seemed to switch off in defence and were punished conceding a goal. Minutes later Port then coverted a 2 pointed free levelling up the tie.
However Portlaoise to their credit continued to create scoring chances and should have closed out the game. Unfortunately none were taken instead hitting 6 wides. Lessons will be learned for Round 2 which is against Crettyard/Spink on Monday 20th.
