A brilliant point with virtually the last puck of the game from Ryan Denny gave Portlaoise a well deserved point in the second round of the Laois Senior Hurling Championship.
Portlaoise weren’t given much of a chance in the build up to this game but the lads proved any doubters wrong with a gritty battling performance which put huge pressure on the opposition.
A crucial Cian Taylor goal half way through the second half gave the Town side huge hope and they led by a couple of points with a few minutes to go.
Brochan O Reilly in the goals played a heroic part also by making a superb save from a penalty.
There were great performances all over the field from the 15 who started and from the subs who came on.
Well done to Pat Critchley and his merry men on a positive result for town hurling this evening. The lads had chances to kill the game but huge progress nonetheless and important learnings and experience for the younger players especially.
