Our minor footballers were unfortunate to come away with just a share of the spoils last night after a hard-fought draw against last year’s champions, Crettyard.
In a closely contested game, Portlaoise produced an excellent defensive display, restricting a talented Crettyard side to just 1-4 from play.
At the other end, Ethan O’Connor and Oisín McRedmond led the attack superbly and looked capable of guiding the lads to victory. Portlaoise will feel they were unlucky not to take both points after hitting the post twice from excellent goal opportunities in the second half, while another goal was ruled out when the officials deemed it to be a square ball.
Despite those setbacks, Portlaoise still held a two-point lead deep into injury time. However, Crettyard managed to land a late two-pointer to rescue a draw and leave the sides sharing the points.
There were plenty of positives to take from a determined team performance, and the lads can take confidence into their next outing when they travel to face O’Dempsey’s in Round 3 in a couple of weeks.
