Abbeyleix 0-18
Portlaoise 1-15
Portlaoise and Abbeyleix shared the spoils after a hard-fought Division 1 encounter in Abbeyleix this afternoon, with the home side rescuing a draw with the final puck of the game from a long-range 65.
In what was an important league clash for both sides, Portlaoise looked to be in a strong position for large periods and produced plenty of good hurling throughout the contest. The visitors showed good composure in possession and carried a strong attacking threat, with a number of excellent scores helping them edge in front during key stages of the game.
Abbeyleix continued to battle throughout however and gradually closed the gap in the closing minutes before converting a dramatic late 65 to leave the sides level at the final whistle.
There were a number of strong individual performances for Portlaoise on the day, with John Mark Foley producing an outstanding display of high fielding at full back. Further up the field, DJ White, Ryan Denny and Cathal Duggan were prominent contributors on the scoreboard as Portlaoise kept the pressure on throughout.
While there may be some disappointment at conceding so late, it was still another important point on the board in a competitive Division 1 campaign.
Well done to all players and management.
