Wolfhill refused to travel to Ballybrophy but were willing to play in Maryborough.
Maryborough travelled by train to Ballybrophy and were awarded the game. Wolfhill appealed the decision and the County Board offered a replay but Maryborough appealed to the Central Council which ruled that Wolfhill pay half their expenses for trip to Ballybrophy within a week or else forfeit the final. Expenses directed were not paid and final was awarded to Maryborough in Feb/March 1898.
