Peter McNulty raises the ACFL Division 1 trophy as captain in 2009.
Peter McNulty
One of the saddest days in the history of this great club was when news broke of the tragic death of football star, Peter McNulty, in late September 2010.
Peter had won titles with the Town in all grades including the senior football title in 2004, 2007, 2008 and 2009 and was an established star performer with the county. He helped Laois win the AllIreland minor football title in 2003, captained Laois to win the 2006 Leinster Under 21 championship and won two Leinster club titles with the Town in 2004 and 2009. A forever remembered by all in the Town he loved so well.
A new pre-season inter-county tournament for Under 21 teams was named in Peter’s honour in 2015 and the first games were played in January 2016. The eight counties involved in theinaugural competition were Laois, Wexford, Down, Tipperary, Carlow, Kildare, Galway and Clare. A new Under 17 football competition in Laois has also been named in his honour. Ballyroan Abbey became holders of the Peter McNulty Cup when they defeated the Town team in the final in November 2015. There to make the presentation to Ballyroan captain, Eamon Oxley, after the game played at The Heath were Peter’s father, Malachy McNulty, and Peter’s brother, also Malachy.
