1993 – Laois Junior A Hurling Final

November 1st 1993

The Town beat Ballypickas in the Laois Junior A Hurling Final.

Final score 3-11 to 3-8.

In the junior hurling championship, Portlaoise beat favourites Shanahoe in the semi final 1-13 to 0-8 to qualify for the final against Ballypickas.

It took three and a half hours of splendid hurling before Portlaoise finally emerged victorious.

In the first game the final score was Portlaoise 1-9 to 2-6, first replay 2-13 apiece and second replay Portlaoise 3-11 to Ballypickas 3-8. In the latter game played at Colt, Portlaoise raced into a fourteen point lead in the first half playing with the wind but plucky Ballypickas pulled it back to three points. It was that flying start that enabled Portlaoise to add the coveted junior title to their long list of championship successes at all levels in recent decades.
