Portlaoise GAA Club has featured in 30 Laois Minor A Hurling Championship finals, winning an impressive 21 titles. Our first win came in 1949, when we saw off Kilminchy (Portlaoise) on a scoreline of 5-02 to 1-00. The most recent victory was in 2001, after a tight contest against Castletown/Slieve Bloom, finishing 1-11 to 1-10.
In the late 1940s, Rovers, a Portlaoise-based GAA club, along with Kilminchy, joined forces with Portlaoise to compete under the Portlaoise GAA banner. We’ve included Rovers’ achievements here for the record.
Rovers played in six Minor A County Finals, winning all six, one after the other between 1942 and 1947. They also lifted the Junior A Championship in 1945, beating Kyle by 3-07 to 1-02.
